The total time depends on the number of implants, the bone, whether additional procedures are needed and how healing goes; the same number of months is not given to everyone. The length of the surgery itself depends on the number of implants and any additional procedures. The period for the implant to integrate with the bone (osseointegration) is followed at review rather than fixed in advance.

Pain during the procedure is controlled with anaesthesia. Pain and swelling can follow; how much depends on the extent of the surgery and on the individual, and no fixed number of days is promised. Guided surgery does not mean less pain for every patient. Pain that is worse than expected, or increasing, needs to be checked.

All-on-4 is a treatment approach in which a fixed prosthesis for a fully edentulous jaw is supported by four implants. Angled placement can make better use of the existing bone in some patients, but it is not graft-free in every case. Fixed temporary teeth on the day of surgery are considered only where the implants' initial stability and the prosthetic conditions allow it; they are not guaranteed for everyone, and the definitive prosthesis is a separate stage.

Zygomatic implants are anchored in the cheekbone and are considered for selected patients with severe bone loss in the upper jaw. Not every patient who cannot have a graft is automatically suitable; the anatomy, sinus health and general condition are assessed by examination and three-dimensional imaging. They may also be considered for some patients whose previous implant treatment has failed.

Digital dentistry integrates 3D imaging (CBCT), computer-aided planning and guided surgical systems into the treatment process. These technologies help the surgical plan to be assessed in advance; they do not replace the examination, the clinician's decision or the outcome of treatment. No lifetime guarantee can be given for an implant or a prosthesis. The implant body and the crown on top are separate components, and the crown is usually the part that needs maintenance or replacement sooner. The long-term result depends on oral hygiene, smoking, a history of gum disease and regular review. Survival rates in research describe studied groups; they do not settle an individual outcome.

Follow the written instructions you are given; ice on the first day and avoiding hot food and drink are usually advised. An antibiotic is not automatically needed after every procedure; take whatever is prescribed as directed. Smoking and hard foods can affect healing adversely. Contact the team treating you if pain or swelling increases, or if you have fever or bleeding that does not stop.

Sinus lifting is considered when bone support for an implant is insufficient in the back of the upper jaw. The sinus membrane is carefully raised and, depending on the technique planned, graft material that supports bone formation may be placed. Not every patient having an implant in the upper jaw needs it; it carries risks such as membrane tearing, sinusitis and graft loss, and whether the implant goes in at the same session or a separate one is decided at examination.
